If you have already departed Australia, and your visa has been cancelled, you may be eligible to apply for the DASP - Departing Australia Superannuation Payment.
DASP is non-assessable, non-exempt income to the Client. However, it is still subject to a final DASP withholding tax.
Taxes:. If you are on WHS (working holiday visa) 65% will be taxed from ATO to your super. For all other temporary visas, 35% will be taxed from ATO to your super
The amount of tax is withheld by the payer (either DASP or a Super fund) when the payment is made. This super payment or the tax is not to be included in the Client's tax return.
How the DASP application works if you do this process with us:
An online DASP application will be lodged through the ATO Agent Portal.
Upon receiving the ATO's confirmation by email, we will liaise with them and guide you through their requirements.
The Superfund might ask you for documents (if applicable) that might be required to be certified and/or translated to English.
Once Superfund is satisfied with the application and makes the payment to you, ATO removes all data from the Portal and your Super account will be closed.
**This process might take a few months to be completed, and we cannot guarantee that you will receive your payment in case you are unable to provide all required documentation.
Before or after you leave Australia we recommend you to book the DASP Initial appointment to check what you need to get prepared and to see how we can better assist you.
